Activity 2: Quiz

Grammar Note: How to form the Plural?

  1. Plural in Arabic is formed in two ways.
  1. The sound “regular” plural
  2. The broken “irregular” Plural
  1. For this lesson, masculine family terms are all formed in the irregular plural, which mean that there is no standard way to form it, so, you will have to memorize the plural as listed in this part of the lesson
  2. On the other hand, for this lesson the feminine family terms are all formed in the regular plural for feminine. This is simply formed by 1) removing the feminine ending, the taa’ marbouTa ة from the singular noun and replacing it with ات.
  3. Note that some feminine nouns don’t end with a taa’ marbouTa such as in بنت – أخت however their plural still ends with بنات – أخوات
