Pronunciation Note

The most commonly used feminine ending, the taa’ marbouTa تاء مربوطة sounds like an emphasized fatHa فتحة at the end of the noun or adjective.

Go to the vocabulary list of this lesson and note the difference in pronouncing the ending of any of the feminine words that end with taa’ marbouTa versus its masculine correspondent, such as in والد and والدة or جد and جدة. You will notice that the masculine form ends with a sukuun, in another word, you will not hear a vowel following the last consonant of the word, which is the د in these examples, while in the feminine form you will hear a د followed by a fatHa فتحة.
